I was having a Jackie-O day…

After posting about shopping for engagement rings on Etsy and the brand Rare Earth (see post here: http://sparkletherapy.tumblr.com/post/17254360748/engagement-ring-shopping-on-etsy), one of my girlfriends fell in love with a few morganite engagement rings. She is not engaged, but really wanted to buy nice jewelry piece for herself. However when she showed the ring to her boyfriend, he immediately reacted by saying that it looks too much like an engagement ring. The reality now is that women wear a plethora of different types of engagement rings, and women that are not engaged wear right hand rings bigger than their engagement ring. What are we to do? Firstly, you shouldn’t be afraid to push your comfort level a little - wearing an “engagement ring” as a right hand ring is fun, and it doesn’t necessarily need be a massive rock. These diamond rings by Astley Clark are wonderful examples of right hand rings that range from very sparkly to subtle and sophisticated.

After posting yesterday about engagement ring shopping on Etsy (http://sparkletherapy.tumblr.com/post/17254360748/engagement-ring-shopping-on-etsy), my Etsy addiction continued. The rings below from Barbara Michelle Jacobs are a great example of the unique, handmade jewelry that you can only get Etsy. These really do achieve a natural look…

I love poking around on Etsy. Looking through pages and pages of vintage party dresses, handmade leather briefcases, or really any other speciality good to find the perfect item is addicting. You really never know what lovely little item you’ll find next. Engagement ring shopping on Etsy is really no different. The site touts everything from antique engagement rings from the Edwardian period to modern jewelry pieces with matte finishing and rough-cut center gemstones. The one thing I find consistent across almost all the engagement ring options (except antique rings, of course) is that the rings are highly customizable, which is similar to the clothing on the site. You can usually choose from a plethora of center gemstones, including both precious and semi-precious gemstones, as well as decide on metal type and, in some cases, make design changes. Mostly, what I love about engagement ring perusing on Etsy is that the same personalized, mom and pop shop feel is still there. Below are a series of whimsical engagement rings from Rare Earth, a lovely Etsy retailer that sells custom jewelry.

While we at Sparkle Therapy love posting on elaborate jewelry pieces and high fashion jewelers, when selecting an engagement ring, many women prefer classic settings that highlight the center diamond. I’m sure we would all love to have a Kim Kardashianesque engagement ring in theory, but in practice, classic and less ostentatious pieces are timeless and everlasting. With that in mind, below are some lovely classic options from Blue Nile, the ultimate online jeweler for engagement rings and high quality diamonds.

I’ve always been a fan of fun cocktail rings and stacked bracelets, but recently, I discovered a new love of pendants. While they’re not usually the largest or most sparkly piece of jewelry, they can be subtly sophisticated or delicately feminine. I particularly love “lace” pendants that have dainty and intricate details. The pendants below are from Hearts on Fire, a brand that prides itself on particularly high quality diamonds, and would make beautiful Valentine’s Day  gifts. Time to drop some hints…

While sculpted rings are not entirely new, these contemporary designs are unique and very interesting. I particularly like the sculpted nature inspired rings  - they really look like twisted vines. The rings below are from Ken + Dana Designs….
